The city of Lima, the capital of Peru and moreover the largest city in the country, is a place filled with contrasts and different shades, starting with the well-off
center of Lima and the luxury of neighborhoods such as Miraflores and San Isidro.
The historical center of Lima is highlighted by its antique and beautiful constructions which are found around the Plaza Mayor,
where the Cathedral and Palacio de Gobierno (Government Palace) are found; the San Martín Plaza which commemorates the centenary of the independence of Peru; the University Park, the anteroom
of San Marcos University; and Parque Italiano with its altarpieces and bronze fountain.
Miraflores and San Isidro constitute the more developed districts
of Lima. Miraflores is a tourist place because par excellence and has an abundant selection of hotels, restaurants, and work-out centers, including green areas and large shopping district.
San Isidro is for the most part a residential neighborhood where the wealthy Limeños congregate. In the south of Miraflores is Barrancos, a pleasant place
with various restaurants.
The south of Lima has different alternatives
for beaches where Limeños relax in the summer. Some of these are Los Pulpos, El Silencio, Punta Rocas, followed by San Bartolo, Santa María and Embajadores; there are also the
beaches of Asia more to the south.
